If Santa put a telescope under your tree and you want to learn how to use it, come to the Friday January 9th meeting of the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society (SMAS). Arrive at Pellissippe State Technical Community College Hardin Valley campus, Room 223 in the Alexander building at 7:00 PM to meet local amateur astronomers. You can bring your telescope. Members of SMAS will help you understand your telescope and explain how to observe some beginning objects. Learn why the sky appears to "move" and how your telescope may "track". If the weather continues to hold, we can observe the Moon and Venus from the parking lot.

On the moon, a prominent feature visible tonight is the crater Tycho.
