Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander's classy remarks on Medicaid patients:
Dumping of 15 million low-income Americans into a medical ghetto called Medicaid that none of us or any of our families would ever want to be a part of for our health care...
..Moving 15 million Americans into this medical ghetto...
...Moving 15 million low-income Americans into a program called Medicaid which is a medical ghetto is not health care reform.
Who exactly does he mean when he says "none of us, or any of our families...?"
TennCare, Tennessee's version of Medicaid, provides health coverage for 1.2 million low-income children, pregnant women and disabled Tennesseans with an annual budget of $7 billion.
And what of the working Tennesseans not fortunate enough to qualify for Tenncare who cannot get private insurance due to job loss or pre-existing conditions? What would Senator Alexander, or any of his family, consider them?
Please call Senator Alexander and demand he apologize to the 1.2 million Tennesseans who he considers "ghetto."
Horrible. Absolutely despicable. That's one of your senators, Tennessee. Are you proud of him?

If you go by Lamar!'s
If you go by Lamar!'s analogy of Medicaid being a medical ghetto, would the doctors that accept medicaid be equated with project housing?
It's not just the people on medicaid that he's insulted it's also the doctors that accept Medicaid that he's insulted.
2 questions to ask Lamar!:
1. When will he be giving up his government sponsored health care insurance?
2. How much did HCA (or should I say Hercules Holdings), Waller Lansden, etc., pay him to say that?
Lamer! is speaking in dog whistle
The "ghetto" business is a not-too-subtle dog whistle to the majority of white Republican racists in Tennessee. It appeals to the widely held opinion among white folks in this state that they'd rather have their own kids die from lack of health care rather than think that somewhere, somehow, some brown- or black-skinned kid might be getting free healthcare.
"I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems scary and weird. It'll happen to you."

Ghetto comments
Thanks for making me aware of this. Here is the email I sent this morning:
Ghetto? Is that what you think of Tennesseans? Or just the non-white Tennesseans? I agree with the following: "The "ghetto" business is a not-too-subtle dog whistle to the majority of white Republican racists in Tennessee. It appeals to the widely held opinion among white folks in this state that they'd rather have their own kids die from lack of health care rather than think that somewhere, somehow, some brown- or black-skinned kid might be getting free healthcare." I am appalled and you need to apologize. Your rantings have nothing to do with dignified politics. I am ashamed to have you represent me.
I like that message, but
I like that message, but take out the second "rather."
