Scott Barker reports five possible violations of state mandated ethics rules adopted by County Commission.

Those contacted for the article have some great excuses. Scooby says: "I think a reasonable person that comes to commission every month would realize my wife works for the sheriff because y'all have printed it so much." Leuthold said he disclosed his job with the trustee's office in his campaign materials.

All I can say to that is,

All I can say to that is, even the pressure from his own web tangled around his throat cannot produce intellect or proper grammar.

Ethics Policy

Marie, you asked me last night if I had yet picked up a copy of the new County Ethics Policy and I didn't answer ('cause I was more concerned by my speed-reading gaffe).

I didn't get down to the Commission office yesterday, but I phoned this morn. Staff told me it wasn't yet filed there and they thought it was still in the law department, then transferred my call there.

The staff in Owing's office couldn't confirm whether it was there, nor whether it was a public record a private citizen might request to read (I can't imagine that it wouldn't be). They took my name and number and said they'd call me back.

I'll let you know more when I hear back, then.

Hahahahahahaha. That's priceless.

I bet

I bet there's a lot in the law director's office that they willy nilly choose to cite as "privileged" and not "public record."

They spend your tax dollars getting outside opinions on land and property deals, and then hide them from the light of day.

perhaps the ethics committee will look at that, too.

Update: Ethics Policy

That was quick. The good news, Randy, is that someone in the law director's office quickly decided we *could* read it. Wadda ya know ;)

Staff there just called back to advise that the policy is in the County Clerk's office *today* (I didn't think to ask whether it would stay there or possibly be routed elsewhere over the next few days).

I've now left a message with the Clerk's office, asking how/when I might pick it up there and also whether it is/will be available on-line (I don't see it at the KC site now).

More when I know more, or phone Clerk's office yourselves at 215-2390.

(Anyone reliant on the League of Women Voters "Know Your Government Officials" directory of phone numbers may want to correct it. Their indication of the number for the Clerk's office is in error. Use the number above.)

Thanks Tamara - I haven't

Thanks Tamara - I haven't found anything myself except for the model from UT/TAS website.

I can't think of one reason why it wouldn't be public information since it is mandated by the state; I just think Owing's office is....well that's another issue.
