There will be a meeting Wednesday, November 28, to discuss the development of a dog park in downtown Knoxville.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Annex Community Room of the Emporium Building located at 100 S. Gay Street.

Arf! Arf! Last week at the Mayors' luncheon, Haslam was telling the public he hoped to make Knoxville "the dog friendliest city in this country". This would certainly be a boon for tourists who travel with pupsters and might be seeking a play area. It would also I'm sure be popular with people downtown and close to downtown.

Great idea. Not many

Great idea.

Not many options for a location downtown. I'll bet downtowners will be happy. Will they have to hire a professional pooper scooper to keep it clean?

In spite of some poop complaints...

Most visitors to dog parks are quite responsible about cleaning up after themselves. People walking their dogs down the street sometimes forget to bring bags to scoop up the poop, but a park usually has a box for people to donate plenty of bags. This would help eliminate some of that. A downtown dog park would bring more people into town too. I've met dog owners in Market Square who have come quite a distance looking for a chance to enjoy the city with their dogs. Having a place to let them play for awhile would be great and help build a sense of community. A dog park can be like a Cheers Bar "where everyone knows your name' or at least they know your dog's name. I'm all for it!

Smart

This will be a good thing for an area that is adjoining JWP and has no real use at this time. Good idea!
