Personally, this kind of stuff makes me wonder why we have partisan races for judges, or even elections at all.
At any rate, there's some real hardball bullshit going on over here in Blount Co. re. the GOP establishment v. an outstanding judge appointed by Gov. Bredesen last year.
Here's a sort of summary, and here's the latest, with annoying facts and stuff. It's a disgrace reminiscent of Bill Hobbs and Robin Smith and the rest of the TN GOP slime machine.
And here's a poke at the outrageously biased KNS coverage.
This ought to concern anyone interested in "liberty and justice for all." If you're interested in that sort of thing and would like to help a good guy fighting the good fight, urge your Blount Co. friends to vote for Judge Meares, and consider sending him a couple of bucks.

judge
As much as I dislike the Blount good ole boys, I wonder about Judge Mears. He seems to be trying to prove he can be tough and that sending lawyers subpeonas at 10pm on a weekend when he could have called them in, its all strange.
I wonder about Judge
I wonder about Judge Mears
Yep, that's exactly what the KNS wants you to think. There's a lot more going on than meets the eye. Judge Meares is just trying to do what little he can to bring it to light under difficult circumstances.
(Do you suppose he might have tried to talk to them offline about all this? And where do you think that might have gotten him?)
Why I support Judge Meares
Me, I don't wonder at all. I am a life long democrat but when I put my time, efforts and my money out there it is only for individual candidates. Candidates that I have researched and found to be worthy of the office they seek and frankly that does not happen often enough in my opinion. Judge Mike Meares is worthy of the office he seeks to retain.
All the spin going on down here shows just how much the people of Blount County want change yet the powers that be want to stop those changes.
If the local media actually reports on the campaign contributions of these two candidates you are going to see that this office for Circuit Court Judge is making the local GOB open their wallets wide as Mike's challenger has now raised nearly a six figure total. Six figures for a Blount County Judge.
It's just never a good idea...
to let any one clique, any one faction, or any one political party hold power for too long. Single party rule leads to corruption and disinterest in the will and/or best interests of the people. It doesn't matter what banner the ruling party waves overhead - swastika, hammer and sickle, elephant, donkey, or Bozo the Clown, too many years of uninterrupted control over the mechanisms of power comes to no good thing. Sometimes you just have to take out a new broom and sweep clean.
Judge Meares
I dont know if Judge Meares is a victim of the political machine of the Republican Party.
I have my doubt about that . I am a republican and personnally I vote for the candidate not for the party and I know a lot of republicans who are doing the same. More and More american people are noticing that there is good and bad in both party and when someone is honest , he deserves to be chosen.
In Judge Meares case, we have a judge who for the first time is NOT GOING TO ACCEPT DONATIONS FROM LAWYERS. And whoever has been a victim of the judicial system in Tennessee , knows that predatory lawyers own judges by financing their campaigh or supporting their candidacy.
and this system is a disaster of injustice , corruption , and ignorance of the law.
IF a judge , wherever he is running decided to part himself from the lawyers maffia , HE DESERVES TO BE ELECTED,
The election of Judge Meares is so important that people in West Tennessee are also interested in seeing him elected. and thanks to the news paper that is courageous enough to help a candidate with values and has a vision of honesty beyond the party lines.
