Someone please translate:

First of all, am I supposed to know who Chuck Williams is? I thought I'd kept up pretty well with local politics, but I don't remember hearing about him before.

Second, this sounds like Rob Frost is resigning from or otherwise leaving Council. I thought his term wasn't up until the end of next year.

Third, can Mr. Williams just announce he will replace Councilman Frost? Don't the voters of the 4th district get to say something about that?

Fourth, Rob Frost, liberal? As far as I can see there's exactly one liberal on City Council - Bob Becker. The rest are moderates or conservatives (not that it matters much when it comes to City business).

I guess I just don't speak Hornbackian.

Hornbackian

I'm not sure. About speaking Hornbackian. But I do. Know that to write. Hornbackian. You have to use a lot. Of inappropriate. And unneccessary punctuation. Period.

Is this the Chuck Williams

Is this the Chuck Williams to which he refers?

From the KNS, 1/13/2008:
Chuck Williams, a Democrat seeking the County Commission's 2nd District Seat B, is a substitute teacher and student at Pellissippi State Technical Community College studying elementary education.

Don't know the answers to any of your other questions.

City Council

Rob Frost will be at the end of his second term in 2009 so his seat will be up for grabs. Several names have come up of those that may seek that seat, including Jonathan Whimmer, Ray Abbas, Cortney Piper, as well as Chuck Williams. This could be interesting next year.

Rob has been a great city councilman and I hope we can be represented as well with the next one.

Ray Abbas

I hope Ray runs again.

Pavlis,Wimmer,Davis ,Addock & dont know

In the primary I will vote for Nick Pavlis in the 1st district.

Nick served on City Council in the past & did a very good job.I am for term limits but to me 6 years out of office is enough to bring a new perspective to being a member of Council.

Please everybody in the 1st district give Nick a shout.

In the 4th I like Abbas, Wimmer & Piper.

Of those 3 I am sure Wimmer is looking at it really hard & I think Piper will support Wimmer if he runs. Not sure what Abbas will do.I would support Wimmer.

City Hall rumor has Elaine Davis running in the 2nd & I'm pretty sure Ken Knight is a candidate in the 2nd.I like both but support Davis if she runs.

In the 3rd I support Ellen Addcock.Just don't if she's running.

Dont know in the 6th.

In the primary I will vote

In the primary I will vote for Nick Pavlis in the 1st district.

I would strongly suggest you wait to see who else is running. There's a bunch of us south of the river looking for a candidate.

Adcock?

Bill, I thought Ellen Adcock was a Republican?

(I know her only from a time when she and I both operated booths at the same antique mall, and I always enjoyed taking with her when we happened to be there at the same time. Just askin'...)

Tamara Shepherd's picture

Scratch that...

We're talking a non-partisan city race, tho, aren't we? It's been a while since I voted in one.

(Guess Pavlis is a Repub, too.)

Rachel's picture

Ellen Adcock is a Democrat.

Ellen's a Democrat.

And yes, the City races are non-partisan.

Elaine Davis has a problem

I ask Elaine about the city hall rumor that she's running for city council in the 4th.

Elaine broke into that wonderful laugh & said "one problem..I dont live in the city."

Bbeanster's picture

"I dont live in the

"I dont live in the city."

Perhaps that explains her lack of respect for city taxpayers.

(re. the meeting when she inquired about asking the "city" to help with the cost of mosquito spraying -- that really rubbed me raw.)

Thats fine

In elections I'm for candidates not against candidates.

I've made up my mind.
I'm voting for Nick Pavlis.

I'm for Nick but I'm sure other fine folks will run & we will cross that bridge when we get to it(pun intended).

If you have not already talked to Nick I hope you will.

Rachel's picture

If you have not already

If you have not already talked to Nick I hope you will.

I know Nick reasonably well, and I followed his career on Council. I like him a lot personally; his voting record, not so much (although he gets props for standing up to Victor).

I'm looking to see if some of our progressive south Knoxville community activists will run.

Bbeanster's picture

Rachel, I know I've

Rachel, I know I've mentioned this before, but Nick's last two years on Council were very different than his first six. And if you've followed his voting record on MPC, it's been real good. I really do believe that he has evolved, and that its an ongoing process. I'd bet Carlene will endorse him.

I don't mean to imply that

I don't mean to imply that I'm "against" Nick. But I'm still waiting to see who else might run.

Meet Chuck Williams

I am Chuck Williams and feel free to ask me any questions you may wish. I announced that I am going to seek his seat in the next election since he is term limited. Yes I did run for County Commissioner in District 2. I am here so ask away!

I heard you lived in

I heard you lived in district 5 rather than 4. Did I hear incorrectly?

So what's your position on the Midway Rd defunct Industrial park. In particular, I want your opinion on developer Victor Jernigan's effort to get a transfer of development rights on the Midway Rd. land.
