A Gallup release today demonstrated that compared to an August average, McCain's support post-Palin has increased with white Republican women (+5 change in McCain). There has been no movement with Republican men (+1).
By contrast, Democrats and independents across gender lines move toward Obama post-Palin. This movement has mostly been larger than McCain's movement among Republican women (independent men: +7 Obama; independent women: +5; Democratic men and women: +8 each). In fact, Obama now leads with white independent women (46% Obama, 39% McCain).
According to a new EMILY's List Women's Monitor survey of women (conducted 8/31 to 9/1), the Obama-Biden ticket now has the advantage on "experience." In their last Women's Monitor from early August, half (51%) of women said "having the experience, background, and knowledge to be President" described McCain better, compared to 16% saying it described Obama better.
In this current survey, the numbers are now almost reversed. Over half (52%) say the Obama-Biden ticket has more experience, while only 37% say McCain-Palin is more experienced. Not only did the Palin pick negate McCain's experience "argument," as many commented, but it actually completely erased McCain's advantage, among women, in just a few short weeks.

She's presenting a real challenge to the GOP spin team. They have to play up the image of such things as the boy going off to the Bush/McCain Crusades at the same time they're Photoshopping her zits.
This may rise to the level of Ross Perot's 'crazy aunt locked in the attic.'
They got a freebie when Gustav helped them keep one crazy aunt in Texas 'monitoring' the storm.

People are used to politicians changing positions so her bridge to nowhere stance, whatever it is, will likely get you nowhere.
She's motivating the base. What do you know, not all women politicans are angry, non-skirt wearing, abortion-loving fiends. They'll turn out more assuredly now. When Rush hasn't been programming me to shoot up churches he's been crowing about the VP pick .. happy as a junebug. Jesus, guns, and abortion. This pick has a good number of the hard right giddy.
How many articles did anyone write about Biden ? Yaaawn.
I have no idea how this woman stacks up in a speech or in a debate. I'll find out the first answer tonight. If she's good, it might be over -- but personally I always trust news sources like theballoonguys.com or wherever the hell you found that first article.
Before anyone gives me crap about being a GOP troll I can assure you I will not be voting for the (R)s this time around, and I liked Romney.

Total bulls*#t and insults being hurled at women who are pro-choice. No one...and I do mean NO ONE has the right to tell me what happens to my body but me. I listen to doctors that advise me what to do to stay healthy, but when it comes right down to it, if I ever get pregnant and feel that I cannot carry a child to full term much less raise it in a loving and supportive environment I will have an abortion. I don't tell you what to do with your penis, stop telling me what to do with my uterus.
My health decisions are between me, my doctor, and NOBODY else. Not the Government, nor the Preachers that love to send fully-grown humans off to fight, kill and die to promote "Christianity" and "democracy" and "rid the world of those Muslim terrorists", nor the Self-Righteous, Smug individuals that trumpet their family values while trying to get blowjobs in the Minneapolis men's restroom, or getting their "board waxed" with some hooker in Washington and Louisiana, or propositioning cops for twenty bucks in a park men's room in Florida.
I most especially do not want POLITICIANS legislatingmorality in any way, shape, or form.

I have to agree it has amazingly energized a portion of the base. It is unbelievable, but there are many so called educated professionals who support this idiocy. Just this morning I had to listen to numerous individuals carry on how great she was and how Obama was only going to raise there taxes to "40%".

Of COURSE Sarah P has fired up the base.
But the GOP wanted more from her than that, which is why she's been praising Hillary and Gerri Ferraro on the campaign trail (and getting booed for it, which is pretty damn funny).
The McCain people, in their simple-minded way, figured they could pick up a lot of disaffected Hillary votes by plugging a woman into the VP slot. Never mind ideology or philosophy or any of that stuff that they evidently think only males care about.
They grossly overestimated the number of self-named "PUMA" voters, who bragged that they'd come to Denver 10,000 strong, but only mustered less than 100 (fewer than that, if you assign them half a vote each on account of they're pretty much half-wits).
And since Palin's "thanks but no thanks" claim was the signature line from her first speech, it's certainly fair to look at whether she was actually telling the truth. Ditto the claim that she was a mortal enemy of the corruptionmeister Ted Stevens when the two of them were tighter than Mick Jagger's pants. Personally, one of the scariest things to me is the fact that as mayor, she tried to fire the town librarian for refusing to take books Palin doesn't like out of the library. And how about her church, which is every bit as political as Rev. Wright's? And what if Michelle Obama had been a card-carrying member of an organization that advocated Illinois separatism? ((see Todd Palin and the Alaska Independence Party)
And since she is making motherhood so central to her campaign, I even think it's fair to look at the kind of mother she's been. It's not that any one of these things is necessarily a deal-breaker, but there's a scary pattern here, and it's not just gaffes and missteps -- it's the deceitful way she has presented herself.
There were five members, I believe, of Congress that voted against the 2004? highway bill, that among other things, funded the aforementioned bridge. I would find it hard to vote for anyone that supported that 'license to steal' piece of legislation.
What was witnessed in Minneapolis was the death throes of the Republican party.
Rather than being a party of conservative, business-oriented individuals, it has become a party of right-wing religionists, who have no hesitation in imposing their ideas of religious values via the other-wise "over-regulating" government.
Goldwater and other Republicans had warned this day would come, and as moderates have left the party, the evangelical wing has taken over, and it will not compromise nor share power within the party.
When people "plants" call in to the talk shows and on C-Span, keep this in mind:
As the 2008 conventions approach, the Democratic Party's advantage in party identification remains as large as it has been over the past two decades, and the Democratic Party's image remains substantially more positive than the GOP's. The Democrats have a 13-point lead in party affiliation (51% vs. 38%) among registered voters, when independents who "lean" to either party are included. Four years ago, the Democrats held only a slim 47% to 44% lead by this same measure.Link...
Many moderate Republicans who would have been happy with McCain, are no longer happy due to his choice of Palin, and the fact that they recognize what the choice represents about the future of the party.
As far as Palin's family being fair game, I'll say this: If Romney had been chosen, and he had claimed he was a successful business man, with every other breath, as Palin describes herself as a "hockey mom,"
would anyone be saying Romney's business history is "off limits?"
I doubt it. Yet, Palin is allowed to claim she is a "hockey mom," which implies a mother who is dutiful and committed to her family, and for some reason that is "off limits." Why have the Democrats allowed this?
If Bill Clinton had claimed he was a "family man," Republicans would have been all over it. It looks like women can claim any success they want to in raising their families, but no one can question it, because for some reason it becomes off limits.

This is another fruit of the Republican holy-than-thou vine.
Ms. Palin is allowed to showcase her son's behavior as an example of her marvelous parenting skills but her daughter's behavior, arguably a result of those same skills, is off the table.

In case you haven't noticed, the entire VP candidate is off the table. No interviews, and Republican hordes bloated with KoolAid ready to urinate on anyone who dares to question what is inside the VP package. Her candidacy promises to be the most intensive two months of spin control in American history, as Rove and gang fight feverishly to keep the moose-dressing reformer image alive in the face of the facts about Palin, who is actually a vindictive opportunist with persistent ties to secessionists and religious extremists, an earmark-grabbing, debt-mounting flip-flopper linked to Ted Stevens and Jack Abramoff. She does, however, strike fear in the hearts of good old boys who impregnate her daughter.
I wonder how much Trojan would have to offer Levi Johnston to be their new product spokesperson.

And Newsweek is reporting that the GOP elite are interfering in Palin's scandal. I believe the technical term for it, in legal circles, that is, is Obstruction of Justice. I'm no lawyer, of course, so what do I know? (Via TPM.)

This is how Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination.
Oops.

Well isn't that convenient.... a blatantly offensive remark. I guess McCain will have to ask Palin to step down.
After he gets points with the religious right but before the sensible Rs feel a need to boycott such a ludicrous ticket.
