Could I be more surprised? No. Harris even lost the popular vote. She did worse than Clinton and Biden. We'll have to wait for the demographic data. Republicans won the Senate and may retain control of the House. Hold onto your hats, we're in for a bumpy ride.

I need some ice cream or something.

A real man or woman with integrity could never have voted for him. The people that did were well aware of his dishonesty and bigotry and voted for him because they like his evil and ungodly ways. There is absolutely no excuse for the men and women that supported that Buffoon. A voter with integrity and character would have stood uo for their conservative or progressive or moderate values and rejected a rapist and convicted felon that will try to duplicate Nazi rule. A person would have to be from another planet to not know what kind of person he is and to know he plans to destroy democracy. All of his supporters will share the blame for all he does to ruin our democracy.

Rising Christian Nationalism

His "evil and ungodly ways" are the face of a rising Christian Nationalism.

In the week since the election, I've been privy to many online discussions on the subject of a militant--even belligerent--movement of this sort on the rise in America.

Several times, I've seen participants in those conversations urge our mindfulness of The Paradox of Tolerance, which you may know posits thusly:

"The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance, thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. This paradox was articulated by philosopher Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945), where he argued that a truly tolerant society must not tolerate those who promote intolerance. Popper posited that if intolerant ideologies are allowed unchecked expression, they could exploit open society values to erode or destroy tolerance itself through authoritarian or oppressive practices."

In fact, while I agree that intolerance cannot be tolerated, I further disagree even that that poses any paradox at all.

The concept of tolerance is not a "moral standard" so much as it is a "social contract," intent on ensuring a free society.

As in any contract, when one party breaks the contract's terms, the other party is released from its terms, as well.

Therefore, the tolerant may in good conscience levy a penalty on the intolerant.

I also find that the verbiage of our U.S. Constitution supports my line of reasoning.

Christian Nationalism is a

Christian Nationalism is a threat to democratic principles. After the election results last week, Christian Nationalism will thrive. Our country made great advancements in civil rights during the 20th century, now because of these nut cases, we are going backward and are likely headed for a type of governing that is undemocratic.

Of course, the goals of the so called "Christian" Nationalists as well as Trump and his maga followers contradicts Christian values and everything that Jesus taught.

"The Trump campaign was channeling what psychologists call “hegemonic masculinity,” the belief that “good” men are dominant in hierarchies of power and status, that they are mentally and physically tough, that they must embody the opposite of anything feminine — and that this dominance over not just women but all less powerful groups is the natural order and what’s best for everyone."

Harris, in 2024, got approximately 13 million fewer votes than Biden in 2020. Although, over 5 million of those missing votes are from California and they are only 60% into the vote count.
