Import tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China. The American people will pay more for products imported from these countries.
The president "said Sunday that Americans could feel “some pain” from the emerging trade war triggered by his tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China, and claimed that Canada would “cease to exist” without its trade surplus with the United States."
...
“WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!),” Trump said in a social media post. “BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID.”

Trudeau
Trudeau has already announced a new series of retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products. Eg: a 50% tariff on Kentucky bourbon. KY producers count on Canada as its greatest export market. A similar tariff of "only" 25% imposed by Canada in 2018 cost the state's economy $580 million then.
There are about 23K employed in Kentucky's bourbon industry. I guess their job losses will constitute some of that pain Trump warns of...but hey, then he'll MAGA!! And these Red State imbeciles again voted for him months ago. These people have such fleeting memories and no idea of how the world works.
President Trump never admits
Ridiculous. Trump doing a victory dance for nothing. But, the republican adulation of the man makes it ok. Dumb as dirt.
President Trump never admits a mistake, but he often changes his mind. That’s the best way to read his decision Monday to pause his 25% tariffs against Mexico and Canada after minor concessions from each country.
...
Canada had detailed that border plan on an official web page on Dec. 18, six weeks before Trump announced the tariffs.
Whether GOP leaders and their megadonors understand this or not, Mexico really just offered Trump more of the same. Indeed, as The New Republic noted, Mexico sent 15,000 troops to the border in 2019, and sent 10,000 again in 2021. Or put another way, Sheinbaum agreed to do what her country has already done in recent years.
