The Humana insurance company reported a 34% increase in profits for the second quarter and a 68% increase in net income for the first six months of the year.

According to this AP report, most of this was in Medicare supplemental premiums. Commercial (i.e. employer group insurance) enrollment dropped by more than 110,000, or 3%, while premiums for this group went up 1%.

Yes, this relates to the George W. Bush Medicare "reform" with its Advantage plan. I had Humana prescription drug "coverage" which was expensive and covered almost nothing. I dropped it for a plan that was half the price and covers almost nothing.

The flip side is that most of our pension plans are heavily invested in companies like Humana.
