Guess I didn't quite get why the Tennessee Highway Patrol would offer advance notice of the date, time, and place it will conduct driver checkpoints over the next few days and weeks? And why KNS would publicize it?

Is the comment thread intended to allow readers to share recommended detour routes?

What am I missing here...

One of the legal requirements

One of the legal requirements for a THP roadblock is that it be publicized in advance.

I can't say whether it's the law or not, but we get these releases quite frequently. However, we don't publish the information. We treat it as a heads up to us, in case we get calls from folks wondering what's going on with all the police activity on such-and-such road. I can't speak for KNS by any means, but I don't recall seeing this information published in other places at other times. Not saying it hasn't happened, nor am I questioning whether it should have been published. Heck, the information was sent to a newsroom...you can't be surprised when it's made public.

Locker search tomorrow!

Dunno why I never noticed it in the paper before but it tickled my funny bone.

Anyway, they're having a big time with it over at the KNS site tonight. One guy says "...and there will be a locker search at the high school at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow!"
