The NYT Book Review has an essay on Michael Lofaro's "restoration" of "A Death in the Family." And in the end, the essayists wonders why people can't write more like Agee these days.

"So which version is better? I’d say the new edition, though the nightmare-prologue could have been recited in a therapist’s office to greater effect."

I'm looking forward to reading the restored text. I just ordered it online.
