I came across this picture while uploading a bunch of old slides to Flickr. It was shot at an open house held at the Sunsphere shortly before the opening of the 1982 World's Fair. The color is from the Ektachrome transparency, the gold tinting of the glass, and probably the method I used to digitize the slide.
It was placed in a slide holder attachment for an old Nikon E950 aimed at a blue sky. I played with it in Photoshop until it looked pretty good but the umbrellas became pink and blue so I gave it up.
Anyway it's a fun trip back. Here is the big one and a grayscale version..

Brings back great memories
Brings back great memories of the fair. I knew what the picture was the second I saw it. At least the world's fair resulted in the nice park. Thanks for the memories.

The large version shows a several huge NBC sports 18 wheelers parked on the road beteen Runy's and Strohaus. Anyone recall what sports event was taking place in town then?
I wondered about all the NBC
I wondered about all the NBC trucks as I was working on this picture. As I recall it was shot sometime in April, 1982. The expo started May 1, and I know it was just before the opening.

The L&N color correction
If you want to color correct this photo in photoshop here's how to do it. Caveat: I'm on a computer with an ancient version of "lite" photoshop, but I think newer, rubust versions will still have these controls. You may have to look around if they've moved the controls.
After you open the picture in photoshop, follow these steps to get close, tweak as needed to get it where you want it:
1. Go to the "image" pulldown, select "adjust" "mode," make sure it's on RGB color, and switch to 16 Bits/channel. (16 bits lets you make your adjustments in finer detail)
2. Go back to the "image" pulldown, select "adjust" and "levels."
3. In the "levels" dialog box, select the "channels" pulldown and choose "red." In the three boxes along the top, enter the following three values: 0 2.17 and 222. Switch channels to "green," and enter 0 0.88 and 255. Switch channels to "blue" and enter 0 0.71 and 255. As you entered those numbers, you noticed the three little sliders right below moving around. From here, the middle slider is the key to tweaking further to your liking. Move it left and right for each color channel and it will change that middle number of the three.
4. After you're done tweaking, select "ok" to close that dialog and go back to the "image" pulldown and switch back to 8 bits/channel before saving your jpeg.
TOPEKA! It Works
Many thanks for the tutorial. The corrected image looks much better.
Now I need to attack the rest of my Ektachrome.
