Redneckness has got to be a disease..
Catch it on your fingers and it just crawls right up your sleeve.
ummmm...
None of the above.

Boomsday?
If I can see it from a safe distance I might watch it. I wouldn't want to get too much redneck on me. It's hard to get off.
Oh, c'mon ... celebrate your
Oh, c'mon ... celebrate your inner redneck. You know you want to. Let's practice. Repeat after me:
Feels good, don't it?

No self-respecting redneck
No self-respecting redneck would have a 24 on his/her hat. A big 8 or a black 3 with angel wings is more like it. Me, I like 20. And, if you have to ask what names go with these numbers, forget it.
By the way, the Bristol night race stunk this year. Boring, green flag racing. Always a spectacle, what with 165,000 fans (at $90-$200 per ticket) and all. But, boring racing for the world's fastest half mile.
In the words of Charlie Daniels 'a redneck ain't nothin' but a workin' man'. As for me, I don't mind a few rednecks, same as I don't mind a bunch of downtown snobs drinking fancy beer and comparing the gas mileage of the latest hybrid car.
I'll pass on the fireworks. I've seen 'em once. I don't want to fight the crowds.
No self-respecting redneck
After careful consideration and due deliberation of the relevant facts, I must admit that I have to agree with you, CBT. Your argument is most persuasive. Sorry for the Jeff reference. I should have said, "Dale was Christ. Junior is Christ returned." ;-)

Why Does the City of Knoxville Fool with that Trash Anyway?
In my opinion, it's essentially the TVA&I fair crowd gone down on the River to watch fireworks, with cold beer thrown in, minus the barnyard smell. It's a bunch of nasty greaseballs and mullets out for a big nite of action. Not many folks who could make a difference in downtown Knoxville are patroling the banks of the Tennessee and certainly not expected to have anything at the bank called First Tennessee. I'd go to Bristol 100 times before I would even think about going to Boomsday. If the city would stop and look at what trash they're dragging downtown, they'd term limit Boomsday and find something else more attractive to middle of the road folks who detest the gutter.
Trash talk
Tim, I'm curious. Is the redneck crowd the only minority(?) you have such contempt for? Do you talk like this about African Americans or Hispanics or any other sub group? Do you express such feelings proudly on a public forum?
I hope that Gemini is lurking. Maybe this will help her understand why I'm so concerned about ethnic cleansing.
I thought Tiny Tim's post
I thought Tiny Tim's post was satire aimed at "elitists". Maybe not?
Yeah, I wondered if it was
Yeah, I wondered if it was satire as well. I mean, how can a Bristol audience be much different than the Boomsday audience?
Easy difference. Boomsday
Easy difference. Boomsday audience gets in for free. Bristol audience pays $90-$200 per ticket (multiply that times 165,000 in the stands), plus drinks, food and half of 'em have $200 scanners/headphones to listen to driver communications. Of course, I'm leaving out the skyboxes, corporate sponsors, etc.
The TVA&I Fair is a better comparison to Boomsday. But, hey, to each his own. Folks who go to the Fair and Boosday have just as much right to have fun as anyone else. Party on!
Haslam and Corky at Boomsday, Of Course Not, Be Real
Would love to see a photo of Mayor Haslam at Boomsday, not sure what the total attendance would be expected to be, but most of the geasers there will be not from Knoxville.
Two years ago the Sheriff's Department had a new piece of equipment that was essentially a command post, with shielding, which could be raised and lowered to the appropriate height.
I'll vote for Corker if I see a photo of Big Jim Haslam and candidate in tow, Corky, at Boomsday, wondering at the display of aero pyrotechnics. Otherwise, I'll continue to formulate my vote and look for an understanding and mastery of the issues facing the country.

None of the above. I'll be watching them from my back yard.

Well I won't turn you away, though I'll be gone most of the day and can't organize a bonafide party. I can even make available the facilities on the (enclosed) back porch.
Bu I gotta be careful who I let go poking around. Someone might determine it's ..... dilapidated. Not so very long ago there was a hole in the bathroom floor. A clear cut case for Eminent Domain don'tcha know.
E-mail me if you plan to show up.
