If y'all are over in the Rockford/Alcoa/East Maryville area, check out Patty's Place Cafe for breakfast or lunch. But make sure you're hungry.

We stopped by for a late breakfast. I had...

...biscuits and sausage gravy and the Mrs. had the "2 by 4" which is two eggs, two pancakes, two link sausages, and two pieces of bacon. Needless to say we shared, but it was still way too much food for two people.

The biscuits are homemade and the gravy is loaded with chunks of sausage and the whole thing is topped with a sausage patty. Today's special was apple pancakes, and they were as big as a plate, filled with apple chunks, and nearly an inch thick in the middle yet still light and fluffy. Maybe Patty was feeling generous, but those were the biggest pancakes I've ever seen.

If you are REALLY hungry, they also have the "4 by 4", which is four eggs, four pancakes, four sausages, and four pieces of bacon. They said only one person has ever finished it. They have his picture on the bulletin board.

The food was great -- as good a breakfast as you will get anywhere and better than most -- and the prices are reasonable ($4.25 for the "2 by 4" and $3.25 for biscuits and gravy). The lunch menu has grill sandwiches (cheesburgers, and the like) plus a variety of deli sandwiches on your choice of breads. They also have tuna, chicken, and egg salad, and chili, soups, and salads. The lunch special today was two chili dogs for $1. Hard to beat that. They also have homemade pies, deserts, and other baked goods if you have room.

Patty's is a family business run by Patty and her daughters and sons. She moved here from New York about three years ago after a stint in fast food restaurant management. She opened Patty's just a few months ago. She said there hasn't been much culture shock because she's from rural Hudson Valley. She says it is similar to Blount Co. and Rockford, which in fact may be a little more "city" than where she's from. The locals may be having a little trouble adjusting to her accent, though.

Patty's is open from 6AM to 3PM, Monday through Saturday, closed on Sundays. They are located on Russell Rd. in Rockford, just a little ways north of the I-140/Pellissippi Parkway overpass.

(There's no exit there. Going south on Alcoa Highway, take a left on Singleton Station, a right on Williams Mill, and a right on Russell Road. Going north on Alcoa Highway take a right on Hunt Road and a left on Russell Road.)

I could eat that in my sleep.

Great advertisement gimmick, I may have to try it. I'm a sucker for competition.

Yeah, we were going to go over there but I forgot you said it is closed on Saturday. (We at least found the place, though, so there's that.)

Directions going south on

Directions going south on Old Maryville Pike, please? (I think I can figure it out from what's posted, but just to be sure....)

R. Neal's picture

Just past Popes you would

Just past Pope's you would take a right on Williams Mill, then a right on Russell Rd. Patty's will be on your left.

Edit: And in case I didn't mention it, don't go expecting Riverside Tavern ambiance. Think Roundup, except maybe not quite as upscale. Heh.

Townsend should be open on

Townsend should be open on Saturday. I was there Saturday afternoon two weeks ago. He may close early, though.

We were the only ones there that day. I sure wish he could get a better location.

South, not north

Coming south on Maryville Pike you turn right at the Four Corners Market onto Williams Mills Rd. If you get to Pope's, you've gone too far. From there, go straight thru the next 3-way stop and take an almost immediate right onto Russell Road.

That's where I though it

That's where I though it was. Thanks for the clarification.

That's fairly close to my GP's office (she's over closer to Alcoa Highway). I always go down old Maryville Pike on my way to her office; much more pleasant than taking Alcoa Highway.

Next time I have to go in fasting for some bloodwork, I'm gonna hit Patty's on my way home.

Townsend's location

I sure wish he could get a better location.

Walking distance from the South Plant at Alcoa? Not sure he could get a better location.

So he does a good lunch business during the week?

That's good. I was wondering how he survived.

Appreciate the review. I've noticed an advertisement for Patty's Place and have been thinking about taking a side trip over there to give it a try.

And, want more appropriate place to start March 17th than breakfast at Patty's Place. Needless to say, the day will also include a couple pints of Guinness at The Corner Lounge.

Just had lunch

Just had lunch there, based on the recommendations. Excellent, dripping grilled cheese on cracked wheat with fries. Yum.

Surprisingly, only a couple tables occupied when I got there about 11:45, and they were both finishing up. Nobody else in the place at all before I left. Hope more people take advantage because they're nice folk.

Thanks for the tip, R!

Biking

I don't know if it's open on Sunday, Metulj. And yes it would be an easy road trip. While you are biking Rockford I reccomend a trip out Martin Mill Pike to West Tarklin Valley. It's like a mini Cades Cove of sorts. See it now before it's completely suburbanized. The sewer went in a year or so ago.
