We're drying up around here.

USA Today reports: Through September, it is the region's driest year in 113 years of record-keeping. In five of the six worst-hit states, rain totals this year are close to a foot below normal.

The print edition also states the Tennessee River flow is about half or normal and thousands of trees [in Tennessee] have died from lack of water.

According to The Daily Times, Alcoa and Maryville are scrambling to access more water.

I hear it is going to rain today. Do a dance!

I'm afraid any rain today

I'm afraid any rain today will only be enough to remind us of how it's supposed to sound, and look, and feel on your face when you run outside and look up.

There won't be enough to do much good.

Not much is right

Since it all came through in the dead of night, more or less, I certainly didn't get to feel it on my face. And my rain gauge only shows three tenths of an inch. Dang it.

At least there should have been some rain in the mountains to raise the level of the Little River for a few days.

No campfires in the backcountry...

According to the News Sentinel, all campfires in the GSMNP backcountry have been banned due to dry conditions. Incredibly, 23 miles of the Appalachian Trail are without water!

23 miles

I'm not much of a hiker, but that sounds like a long way to have to haul water.

I'd rather be cycling.
