Apparently the forefathers could stay awake.
Lumpy's complaint on the County Commission forum about how long the meetings go on brought a response from Commissioner DeFreese. (after the jump)
As Bubba would say, ok then.
"These are the times that try men's souls." Remember this quote from Thomas Paine's THE CRISIS describing the beginnings of the American Revolution?
So Commissioner Lambert wants to walk out at 10:00 and get 9 other commissioners to join him.....
Maybe some men on this commission do not have the fortitude or the stamina as did some of our forefathers.........
Do some of you remember the story of the Christmas Eve crossing of the Delaware River to win the Battle of Trenton in 1776?
Many men had sleepless nights and hungry days in an effort to fight for the freedom that we now enjoy.
During that same time, some spineless Congressmen panicked, made excuses, and actually gave Washington dictatorial powers! That only could happen....because some of the statesmen were weak..... Thankfully Washington was not corrupt and did not abuse those powers.
Weak people can....relinquish their power............
If those amendments get on our ballot.....I will not vote for them. I will not give up my right to vote for certain offices. I do not want to see a Knox County Mayor having the power to appoint so many offices.....I do not trust that we will always vote for a man with the integrity of George Washington into that office. I do not want a Mayor King for Knox County.
"These are the times that try men's souls."

Drama queen? What the heck?
Drama queen?
What the heck? The Revolutionary War and Knox County Commission have so much in common.
Oh,HELL yeah! Give me
Oh,HELL yeah! Give me patronage or give me death!
I'm going to throw my body onto the barricades to preserve the fee office system -- Phil Ballard's right to hire anybody's relatives he chooses and Fred Sisk's right to pick whichever delinquent tax attorney can raise him the most money.
But isn't it strange how the city manages to collect property taxes and issue business licenses without elected clerks, assessors, registers or delinquent tax attorneys?
Clearly she believes that
Clearly she believes that she's Ann Coulter.
Lumpy really is losing too
Lumpy really is losing too much sleep. I hate to think about what could happen if he continues to be sleep deprived as a result of these long meetings. His aim might not even be true when he has to pull a gun on his next criminal. Walk out Lumpy, and don't take it anymore. In fact, walk out much earlier.
lumpy
If Lumpy never showed up at all the meetings would be 2 hours shorter.
Got mulch?
The Lumpy Briggs connection is the most unusual alliance in Commission history. Both of them have gone to extremes to protect the NRR mulch yard.
Why?
Hmm...
/Begin Snark: Maybe because the NRR Mulch Yard is the only place in a nine county radius capable of accepting and recycling the endless loads of rhetorical horse manure you habitually foist upon half a dozen or so forums in pursuit of some overwrought conspiracy theory involving Ragsdale? /End Snark:
overwrought conspiracy theory involving Ragsdale?
You defend Ragsdale? That is telling.
No...
You confuse failing to corroborate an overwrought conspiracy theory with supporting Ragsdale. THAT is what's telling.
Tinfoil hats are not required to have serious issues with the results of the audits showing a pattern of negligence and incompetence at best and a violation of state law at worst. Tinfoil hats are, however, required to get on board the NRR Conspiracy which is, at absolutel worst, a (insert naughty word) of incompetence by all parties. Tinfoil hats were also required to buy into the cheating Victoria DeFreese of one last meeting conspiracy theory you were floating a while back. You see, it is possible to believe the County Mayor is an incomepetent boob without also believing he has three sixes seared into the back of his neck.
I see...
Did Ragsdale break State Law? He admits he did. Did Ragsdale violate the Knox County Charter? Repeatedly.
Did Ragsdale try to swear Commissioners in early? Yes.
The only conspiracy is the one to keep this criminal in office and to keep anyone from investigating the mulch yard. To call Ragsdale an incompetent boob is a tell. What do you call someone who covers for a criminal?
To call Ragsdale an
A defense lawyer?
Sorry to all defense lawyers out there...it was too big an opening to not drive the Mack Truck through...

So now I'm covering for a criminal?
Even though I've never said a single solitary pro-Ragsdale thing in my life? Can't you see how silly you're acting? Really? You know, you once called the Lump the best friend the Ragsdale faction ever had because of all his stupid moves on commission and in front of the cameras. By that same logic, you're the best friend Mike Ragsdale has on the internet.
You hijack nearly every thread about county govenrment on KnoxNews and KnoxViews in order to post something about your latest Ragsdale fixation.
You call everyone who challenges you a "Ragsdale Booster" or "Ragsdale Apologist" or similar. And I don't mean people who say good things or stick up for Ragsdale. I mean these are the terms you use for people who just aren't sufficiently anti-Ragsdale for your liking.
You post every rumor, ever allegation, every bit of innuendo that comes to mind about Ragsdale without regard for either accuracy or relevance to the thread.
From what I can gather from your many, many posts on these forums, nearly everything that happens in Knox County happens because of Mike Ragsdale. If it's good or something against one of his more vocal critics, it's all about "changing the subject." If it's something bad, "Team Ragsdale" is behind it all.
I believe the appropriate term is "thread killer." By always going so completley, belligerently, irrationally over the top on every thread connected to Knox County government, you accomplish exactly three things, none of which I believe to be your goal.
1. You shut down discourse and alienate a lot of people who might otherwise broadly agree with your opinion of the mayor.
2. You drum up sympathy for the County Mayor by going so completely around the bend with your criticisms. For reference, see the sympathy drummed up for Clinton by the GOP going over the top on Lewinski or the backlash in 2004 against those on the left who went so belligerently over the top on Bush.
3. You harm your own credibility, or what there could be of it, by coming across as, frankly, obsessed - in the clinical sense - with the mayor. At this point, you've just become that kook who hates Mike Ragsdale.
I'm not sure why I'm bothering to post this. Maybe it's the optimist in me beieving against all evidence to the contrary you might still be capable of rationally processing information.

I used to think a person could have a rational discussion with the digit. I gave up that delusion long ago.
Best just to ignore him.
Let's see if there is a conspiracy...
Think KnoxViews or the News Sentinel will cover the story of how local Democrat Chuck Jensen offered $30,000 for testing for the NRR mulch yard and was voted down by County Commission?
Intelligent Lumpy Lambert led the 7 votes to turn down the offer for the $30,000. It is Lambert's District that has the health problems with the mulch yard.
So RayCapps, no conspiracies? How do you explain turning down $30,000 for testing to protect public health? This was worse than Black Wednesday but no one will learn about it.
