U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick says factory gigs are the “great jobs of the future” that Gen Z could work in for the "rest" of their life—and so could their grandkids.

“It’s time to train people not to do the jobs of the past, but to do the great jobs of the future...

Huh, factory jobs are jobs of the past.

“Access to cheap goods is not the essence of the American dream,” U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said to a crowd of economists.

Define cheap. Many of these goods are what most Americans can afford.

“You know, somebody said, ‘Oh, the shelves are going to be open,’” Trump said. “Well, maybe the children will have two dolls instead of 30 dolls, you know? And maybe the two dolls will cost a couple of bucks more than they would normally.”

But it’s a discordant political argument for a billionaire president who moves in an orbit of wealthy CEOs and members of his Mar-a-Lago club to tell working parents that they will be able to afford fewer toys for their children.

This is where we are... But, whatever is bad is Joe Biden's fault.

Factory jobs are not jobs of the past

if we want to have things like wind turbines, trains, cars, refrigerators, airplanes....

Dirty noisy unsafe manufacturing jobs are jobs of the past. Advanced manufacturing jobs are not. And they are the only jobs that generate enough wealth for there to be any work that pays well.

Of course. In addition,

Of course. In addition, there will be 100s of the "new" factory jobs versus the 1,000s of the past.

Just because it won't be as dirty..

Doesn't mean it won't still be hard. Have no doubt. Every union worker earns their wage. The fact that we may have a few less long term effects is a huge advancement, but you are correct. Factories and warehouses are one of the few places we can directly figure out the worth of every employees labor and how much wealth they are creating. Just because American workers have a right to, and demand, clean air in their workplace doesn't mean the company won't make a profit. Stuff like this is merely an illusion. What has happened is that everyone has built unreasonably higher margins in order to justify historically unheard of returns for investors. We're in the process of folks trying to crash our system. They may do it.
