So it wasn't just a one time slip. What is James Carville thinking? He is still after Dean so it wasn't only directed at Harold Ford.

Who can connect the dots here? I am sticking with the Clinton theory. Carville doesn't make mistakes. This is deliberate.

Democratic strategist James Carville says his party should dump Howard Dean as chairman of the Democratic Party because of incompetence.

Carville, during coffee and rolls with political reporters today, said Democrats could have picked up as many as 50 House seats, instead of the nearly 30 they have so far.

The reason they didn’t, he said, is the Democratic National Committee did not spend some $6 million it could have put into so-called “third tier” House races against vulnerable Republicans.

Carville said the other Democratic campaign committees had borrowed to the hilt.

He said he tried to meet with Dean to argue for additional spending for Democrats in the final days of the campaign, but Dean declined and gave no reason why.

Asked by a reporter whether Dean should be dumped, Carville replied, “In a word, do I think? Yes.”

He added, “I think he should be held accountable.” He added, “I would describe his leadership as Rumsfeldian in its competence.”

I don't blame your ignorance

Carville is advising against future successes. He should be summarily ignored.

Let me repeat this again, and read this carefully:

Clinton didn't support Dean for DNC chair last time around. Clinton backed Simon Rosenberg. In the DNC chair primary, Rosenberg got 3 votes. Dean won 56. 91 votes were cast.

If Clinton had that much pull, Dean would have been pole-axed before the last DNC general election in Feb. 2005.

Do you even know who the DNC membership is? Do you know what it takes to be a voting member?

Here's one thing you should know: Neither Carville nor Clinton can cast a vote.

Carville doesn't make mistakes

Oh?

Woodward describes the doings at the White House in the early morning hours of Wednesday, the day after the '04 election.

Apparently, Kerry had decided not to concede. There were 250,000 outstanding ballots in Ohio.

So Kerry decides to fight. In fact, he considers going to Ohio to camp out with his voters until there is a recount. This is the last thing the White House needs, especially after Florida 2000.

So what happened?

James Carville gets on the phone with his wife, Mary Matalin, who is at the White House with Bush.

"Carville told her he had some inside news. The Kerry campaign was going to challenge the provisional ballots in Ohio -- perhaps up to 250,000 of them. 'I don't agree with it, Carville said. I'm just telling you that's what they're talking about.'

"Matalin went to Cheney to report...You better tell the President Cheney told her."

Matalin does, advising Bush that "somebody in authority needed to get in touch with J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican Secretary of State in Ohio who would be in charge of any challenge to the provisional votes." An SOS goes out to Blackwell.

Andy, you feel that was a mistake?

Interesting.

Did it occur to you that for Hillary to run in 2008 John F. Kerry had to lose? I stand by my comment.

Expand your thinking.

Spiking Dean

Your original point was that Clinton was guiding the DNC and trying to have Dean spiked.

Which you, um, didn't address.

So, do you know how the Tennessee delegation to the DNC is chosen? Who are its members? How are they connected to Clinton personally?

Now, repeat this exercise for all 50 states.

Just how is Clinton going to spike Dean in the DNC leadership position when the guy he backed got only 3 votes last time?

Also, this... Carville said

Also, this...

Carville said the other Democratic campaign committees had borrowed to the hilt.

...is only true if the Democratic campaign committees didn't want to ask more money of its contributors.

Uncompetitive Democratic races were holding a total of about $50 million up until some bloggers figured out that it would be a good idea for candidates to use the DSCC/DCCC funding rules to "wire-transfer" funds to necessary races.

AM radio can only teach you so much.

Notice how Harold Ford politely backed out of the room when Skeletor namechecked him. And keep your eyes open - everyone will immediately do the same. Except Tim Russert.

But I'm not telling you how I really feel.

Carville is hughly entertaining but should be ignored these days by the grownups.  I do wonder if the Clintons are pulling these strings?

Dems and Dean

The Democrats have the best year in over 12 years and people want rid of Dean, how silly. I would say Dean's grassroots along with the insider fundraising helped, we need both. Stacey

Hillary is coming. You can deny it but the signs are there. I am just pointing out that a war is in progress.

Is it possible that a game is being played at a level you do not see or understand?

Some predictions:

No draft Gore 2008 movement

"I am not running" from Hillary

Bill Clinton 24/7

Paul Begala raises his head

Evan Bayh drops out

A skeleton pops out of the Howard Dean closet

John F. Kerry steps in

The crystal ball dims after that.

I'm waiting for the rotten.com biography for Carville - he's the perfect candidate. But this factoid from Rush Limbaugh's pretty much sums up his place in the pundit pantheon:

27 May 1994 Marries third wife Marta Fitzgerald, a 35-year-old aerobics instructor he met on Compuserve. The two are married in Justice Clarence Thomas' house, with the ceremony officiated by Thomas himself. Also in attendance were William Bennett, James Carville and Mary Matalin.

What a hoot that must have been.  I wonder if he told his Ray Charles joke.

Feverish dreams of Safire. Didn't you know that the Florida result in 2000 was a calculated plot to ensure that Hillary could make the ballot in 2008?

The Clintons (and the Clenis) are responsible for everything!
