Veteran reporter Marvin Kalb sheds light on battles underway at CBS where Bill Owens, executive producer of 60 Minutes, just quit/was fired, saying, “It’s clear the company is done with me.”
“Bill was under increasing pressure to go puffy on Trump,” Lesley Stahl told Kalb.
Kalb, Murrow professor emeritus at Harvard, said Shari Redstone, the majority owner of Paramount (the parent corporation of CBS News), is negotiating to sell her interest to the son of Larry Ellison, the immensely wealthy owner of Oracle, a multinational computer technology company and friend of Donald Trump.
“Under Ellison, CBS will purr like a Fox,” Kalb said.

CBS History
Ed Murrow stood up to red-baiting, blacklisting Sen. Joseph McCarthy, and exposed McCarthy's malice.
CBS Executive Frank Stanton stood up to an abusive congressional committee.
Their memory is tarnished by the current capitulations.
Editors, pubishers and stones
(in reply to Mark Harmon)
Ed Murrow would be hard pressed to find an editor or executive of CBS standard in the 50's and 60's today. Since the Fairness Doctrine was lifted the media indusry is no longer driven by market forces per se. When classified ads died via Craigs List there was no broad base to support a free press left. Instead of publisher control, the model has changed from that to one of corporate control. People will seek the truth.
