Nearly 10% of Tennesseans lived in poverty last year, an estimated 46,000 more than the previous year.

Researchers added that number doesn’t capture just how many people are struggling to make ends meet.

New U.S. Census Bureau estimates found Tennessee’s poverty rate ticked up from 10.1% to 10.7% last year.
